Ys from Nihon Falcom has existed since 1987, predating even old men like me. The action RPG series has been around for just so many iterations and remakes at this point, and regrettably, I must admit I’ve played zero of them. Nonetheless! At New Game+ Expo (NGPX), Ys IX: Monstrum Nox was revealed by Nihon Falcom and NIS America for the West. It is coming to Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, and PC via Steam in 2021 and will support both English and Japanese audio. Check out the rocking announcement trailer, that reveals you’re headed to the “Prison City where shadows and secrets abound.”
Per Steam, here is a story description of Ys IX: Monstrum Nox:
Renowned adventurer Adol “the Red” Christin and his companion Dogi arrive at Balduq, a city annexed by the Romun Empire, only for Adol to be detained before setting foot inside. While imprisoned, he meets a mysterious woman named Aprilis who turns him into a Monstrum, a being with supernatural Gifts and the power to exorcise monsters. Now, Adol must ally with his fellow Monstrum to fend off the fearsome threats emerging from a shadowy dimension called the Grimwald Nox, as well as unravel the mysteries of the Monstrum curse, and the truth behind the unrest within Balduq.
You can play as any of the six Monstrums, who have various unique abilities, and Flash Dodge and Flash Guard return as gameplay mechanics in Ys IX: Monstrum Nox. “Gifts and Boost Mode” have been added as well. Expect more announcements from NIS America as the game gets closer to release next year.
Another awesome announcement revealed at NGPX today was Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 2.
