Ys Origin release date trailer Nintendo Switch Nihon Falcom Dotemu

Back in July, publisher Dotemu announced that it would be bringing the Nihon Falcom action RPG Ys Origin to Nintendo Switch. Via Limited Run Games, the game is receiving a (sold out) physical collector’s edition as well as a (still available, for a few days) standard edition. And thanks to a new trailer released today by Dotemu, we now know Ys Origin has an Oct. 1 release date.

When the game arrives on Nintendo Switch, it will include additional content that was originally made available in the Xbox One version of the game, including a speedrun mode. It might help you forget that the game originally released in Japan well over a decade ago.

As its name suggests, Ys Origin is a prequel to the larger series, occurring 700 years before the first two Nihon Falcom titles. The premise is that the world is in dire straits: “Demons arrived in droves and forced the twin Goddesses who ruled the land to whisk their subjects away from the surface, into the safe embrace of the clouds. The demons were persistent, however, erecting a massive tower in pursuit. The battle that raged upon the ground had begun ascending for a second round up above.”

Don’t forget that there is more Ys where that came from, with Ys IX: Monstrum Nox coming to Nintendo Switch with a summer 2021 release date.
