Yuji Naka 'feels responsible' for strange visuals in Sonic the Hedgehog movie trailer

Now that the Sonic the Hedgehog movie trailer is out, I can say that it actually looks a little worse than I was expecting. And I was expecting it to be terrible. Unfortunately, a large section of the internet agrees me, and Sonic the Hedgehog co-creator Yuji Naka is aware of the disappointment.

In fact, Naka empathizes with those feelings and actually feels a level of responsibility for Sonic’s strange looks in the movie. It’s because the CG in the movie is being produced by Japanese studio Marza Animation Planet, an arm of Sega that Naka helped establish. Twitter user Nick Mosier helpfully provided translations:

And uh, incidentally, Yuji Naka was accidentally stiffed out of having a cameo appearance in the movie?

At any rate, it’s far-fetched to say Naka should take any blame for the backlash against the Sonic the Hedgehog movie. It’s been some time since he had any direct influence on the franchise, after all. Plus, just like it takes a village to raise a child, it takes a whole movie studio to produce a train wreck. And oh baby, I’m curious to see if anything survives the inferno waiting at this train station come November.
