Zelda: Remastered HD update

The Legend of Zelda is one of the most iconic and influential games of all time. Those first few steps into the open world of Hyrule changed video games forever. The original is still a fun (if tough), nostalgic adventure, but how would it look with a fresh coat of paint? A team of dedicated fans has answered that question with the new The Legend of Zelda: Remastered HD update pack. It’s a beautiful re-skinning of the classic game, and it also features numerous quality of life improvements. You can check out the release trailer by clicking below!

About this project

Previously, this team has given the HD update treatment to the original Castlevania and Metroid games. Zelda: Remastered completes the “Mesen HD Pack Triforce” of games, but hopefully, we still see more in the future. In the meantime, some of the new features include:

  • Increased resolution
  • Increased frame count for running
  • Updated sound effects and music
  • New title and game select screen
  • Animated environments
  • Save manually with Up+A when in the items subscreen
  • Re-localization of the game script
  • Increased bomb max
  • Increased bomb upgrade amount
  • Faster text printing
  • Change the Red and Blue rings to Red and Blue tunics
  • Breakable tile hints
  • Press the “Select” button to toggle the item assigned to the “B” button
  • Faster health refills
  • Partial heart pieces in HUD

If you’d like to try it out for yourself, you’ll need to download the Mesen emulator and the necessary patches. You can find everything you need (along with lots of technical info about getting it to run properly) in the source link below.
